It is always a little scary hiring a guide anywhere, and even more so outside of the U.S. I have fished with a guide in Mexico that couldn’t tie a knot to save his life and I once spent a day with a guide in the Bahamas that would pole the boat away from a tailing bonefish so that he could scoop up a conch to take home for his dinner.
We have personally spent many days on the water with each and every one of our professional Belizean guides, making sure that they have the skills and the drive to make your trip a successful one.
They are all English speaking, skilled at boat handling and accomplished fly casters, with scores of landed permit, bonefish and tarpon to their credit. They all know the waters of Ambergris Caye and the surrounding islands very well, and can all fish for any and all of the species available in our area, including tarpon, permit and bonefish.
Jorge (George) is the captain of my flats boat. He has been guiding fly fishing now for 5 years. James and I spent a few hundred days on the water with him, training him in the subtleties of being a top fly guide. He has guided us to several grand slams and dozens of permit. His best day on the water last year was with a Michigan angler, boating 12 permit on a fly.
Marco is our head guide. He has a dozen years of fly fishing guiding under his belt and owns 2 specialty flats boats, custom designed by him and built here on the island. He is a patient instructor and a bonefish and permit specialist and has guided many of our clients to their first ever permit by both fly and spin.
